When you visit...
Tour the island’s 31 square kilometres and
discover Saturna’s distinct ecosystems. Any season, hike the
Parks Canada trails or bike the island’s terrain. Savour spectacular
views of Mount Baker and the Strait of Georgia from parks and marked
beach accesses.
Try the beaches for kayaking, fishing or dipping.
Visit the historic Fog Alarm Building at East
Point, recognized as Canada’s premier land-based whale- watching
site—and take a picnic or a kite with you.
On cliffsides, expect to encounter feral goats
and bald eagles; on roadways watch for unpredictable wildlife.
Plan an escape for a weekend or a week. Once on
Saturna, scan the bulletin boards for island goings- on. The Canada
Day Saturna Lamb Barbecue at Winter Cove, is an annual highlight;
the Free Store a must. Sample the wines at the picturesque Saturna
Island Vineyard, then grab a bite to eat at its bistro. Or try the
fare at the Saturna Café or Lighthouse Pub. Evenings, relax
on the pub’s patio to take in one of the best sunsets in the
Gulf Islands.
Throughout the summer, join the Parks Canada interpreter
at various locations for participatory events, including unique
sunset presentations at East Point. And if you’re looking
for a picture-perfect setting for your special event, you’ll
not find a more scenic spot.
Whether you come to Saturna to seek quiet refuge
or play the days away, expect to be enchanted by this unusually
untouched place—away from the world as most know it.
